The original stand designed by Soane in 1834 now stands placed against the south wall of Soane’s Model Room where it supports Francois Fouquet’s models of the Tomb of Mausolus at Halicarnassus, the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina in the Forum Romanum, Rome and the so-called ‘Temple of Venus’ at Baalbek, Lebanon. On the base are models of Soane’s designs for the Pitt Cenotaph, London and two models for for the Simeon Monument, Reading

The Furniture and Fittings inventory lists ‘6 Mahogany Pedestals on turned and reeded legs, to support Models’ but only four survive today. These are supremely elegant examples of Soane at his most restrained.
